Michael Jackson, Willy Wonka and me
publication date: Jun 26, 2009
Hi,
Talk about ambulance chasing . . .
The other day furniture store Habitat apologised
after exploiting the unrest in Iran to drive online
Twitter users to its products.
According to the BBC "Keywords - called
hashtags - such as 'Iran' and 'Mousavi' were added
to its messages so people searching for those
subjects would see the firm's adverts."
It's a clever idea, but ultimately flawed.
I mean, are people who have an interest in Middle
East politics really going to be thinking about
buying a rug or sofa? I can just imagine the dinner
party conversations:
"Well, it's obvious that Ahmadinejad is clinging
onto power by relying on Supreme Leader
Ayatollah Khomeini . . ."
"Yes, yes, darling, but have you seen the Habitat
Summer sale is on - I've got my eye on a lovely
modular sofa in cream leather."
Hmmmmm . . .
I am sure we'll also see a huge jump in this kind of
keyword exploitation today with news of Michael
Jackson's death. Indeed, I've just heard that
Twitter crashed and Google had error messages
directly after the announcement of MJ's demise as
millions of people went online simultaneously!
Ok, so anyone selling merchandise or CDs would
be wise to load their websites and pepper their
myspace, Facebook and Twitters with keywords
and related tags. But you can also be sure that
spammers and those without any marketing nous
will be using 'Michael Jackson' related keywords
to exploit the surge in people searching for news
and direct them to totally unrelated offers.
And now for something completely different . . .
I just wanted to update you on some exciting new
projects and the mother of all competitions!
There are a couple of new betting services that are
in the testing process. So far the results have been
excellent and it seems very likely they will be
released in the next few months.
First off, Martin Blakey's Handicap Gold is a
ratings service which aims to provide you with win
and placed horses at prices up to 50-1. I have just
got off the phone with Martin (a very nice chap by
the way) and he explained the approach:
"I specialise in handicaps and my ratings take in to
account a whole host of elements which result in
each horse being awarded a figure. The horse with
the highest figure is my top rated selection and the
horse with the lowest figure is my bottom rated
horse.
Unlike most ratings services I don't give every
horse in a race a rating, as I feel this is a bit of a
cop out and does not break the race down in order
to highlight a suitable betting opportunity.
I access the whole race which then leaves me with
usually between two and six horses, each with an
individual rating, which in my opinion determines
its chance of winning.
Obviously each individual will have different ways
of utilising these ratings, there are many ways in
which to profit and you will soon see patterns
developing which you can then exploit. As well as
the obvious win and place opportunities, there will
also be many occasions when forecasts and tri-
casts are pinpointed which can provide some huge
payouts."
Martin is a highly respected if virtually unknown
tipster. He's the man behind the excellent and
consistent http://www.thetradingplan.co.uk. By his
own admission, Martin is not a publisher or
marketer. He makes his money from betting and
NOT from selling services. However I think that
someone with such a talent should have a wider
audience and that's why I have decided to publish
him. Although Handicap Gold is still in the testing
phase, I suspect it will be released in the next 2
months. If you want to be the first to hear about it
plus updates on the test results, then you can
register yourself on the pre-launch notification list.

And there's more . . .
I have finally managed to persuade Clive Keeling -
editor of What Really Wins Money - to release his
own tipping service. He's come up with a cracking
strategy which involves just one tip a day with a set
profit target. The idea is to make small gains that
compound over time.
And the results are very impressive. The betting
bank is nearing £3,000 since November 2008 based
upon £100 level stakes and aiming for around 9%
return per day. The overall strike rate is an
incredible 96.43%. It all adds up to nice consistent
daily growth.
If you want to be informed of any updates to this
service and want to be the first in the queue when
the service is launched, just go to
www.canonburypublishing.com/placeback and put
your name on the list.
Willy Wonka has nothing on this . . .
I've left the best - in my opinion - until last. I have
decided to do something that as far as I know has
never been done before.
Next Friday I am opening up a competition with a
prize that could potentially make 3 people very rich
indeed!
You see, the lucky winners will be personally
trained and mentored by me, Jon Street and Charlie
Wright in starting and running an online business
using our proven strategies.
It doesn't matter what your experience - this
competition is open to all.
We will instruct the winners on how to identify a
hot market, build a list, find products and then
promote. We will help with the copywriting,
website building, joint venturing - the lot! We plan
on having face-to-face meetings as well as regular
online training over a period of at least 3 months.
The aim is to prove once and for all that our
techniques can be used by anyone to build a
serious online income.
If you want to see a real life example of how much
money can be made, then check out Jon Street's
30k Day video.
What do you need to do to be in with a chance? All
you have to do is fill in a simple questionnaire and
then send me an email explaining why you should
be one of the lucky three. I'm not looking for an
amazingly persuasive essay - far more important is
desire, ambition and commitment. All will be
explained next week . . .
Have a great weekend!
Best regards
Nick
